Brian founded Sleuth Kit Labs to enable front line digital investigators to effectively fight digital crime. He has been involved with DFIR for over 20 years developing software, educating investigators, researching new techniques, and doing investigations. He was previously at Basis Technology for over 15 years before Sleuth Kit Labs spun out. Brian’s main mission is to make digital investigators more efficient and he drives the Autopsy and Cyber Triage applications to produce fast and relevant artifacts using extensible frameworks.

Brian is the author of the book File System Forensic Analysis and has a Ph.D. in computer science from Purdue University. He previously worked at @stake as a research scientist and the technical lead for their DFIR team. Brian is the chairperson for the Open Source Digital Forensics Conference (OSDFCon) and ResponderCon. He has also been on the committees of many conferences, workshops, and technical working groups, including the Annual DFRWS Conference and the Digital Investigation Journal.
